Media Mania
How can the media center better serve our schools in today's modern world?
The world changes everyday. Shouldn't our school media centers keep up? When I was first hired to run the media center at the newest high school in our county, I had no idea what I was doing. What is a media center? How does it operate and fit in in the 21st century? How can it serve our students to make them better people? How can it support the staff to lessen their job load? These were the questions I asked myself. On top of these answering and solving these queries, I also wanted to make my media center more efficient. I was told over and over, "Well this is how it has always been done." Why should it stay the same?
Everything around the media center has changed: schools, curriculum, student population, technology, world politics, and the list goes on. I believe that the media center should change too. What can we do differently? How can we change our collections to better reflect our student population? What technology would benefit our students and staff? These are things I will face and take you on the journey with me!
